ACTIVITIES OF SFC

Satakunta Film Centre takes action for being a local cultural AV-media centre. Its aim is to advance media education and civil-journalism by av-equipment.

Pursuit of video- and film club activities has continued for years in Satakunta. SFC and it´s areal unit MEKA TV are aimed for experimental media education for children and youngsters. There have been several courses in the schools and village houses in the audio-visual expression; film, video, hand-made-animation, multimedia etc. We have offered equipment and quidance but children have made themselves their own productions. By own experience acquiring the methods of mocing picture is effective. And the final product is generally finished film with it´s premiere.

SFC has developed in past years individualistic video expression with several EU funded projects which have operated in rural areas. In the 2006 SFC accomplished widespread areal education and documentary project with Pori workers institute and institutes of citizens of the area: Deltalands of Karhuseutu. In the 2007 memory gathering project “Memoirs into films” and Media education studying and charting project “Mekastus” were completed. Three periodical “KarhuseutuTV” project started in the beginning of the 2008. SFC can furthermore be among also other operators which are financided by EU funds.

SFC offers professional help with film education, a film screenings and events and courses in video: basic courses of shooting, editing and recording, making manuscript and documentary as well as animation for children, teachers, leisure-time directors and others. Media pallette presents a selection to choosing a suitable course for several purposes.

FILM SCREENING ACTIVITY

Film screening in the cinema as a social event is quite rare in the countryside. Film centres are aiming to improve this situation. Film, however, goes together with big screen perfectly. One of SFC´s tasks is to improve opportunities to feature film screenings in communities where is a long waly to the nearest cinema. These screenings will take a places generally in the schools. Sometimes is possible to get directors to present their films, too. Main part of screenings contains amateur films which are produced during own media workshops and projects.

THE VIDEO AND ANIMATION FACILITIES

The House K-18, accommodation of SFC is located in Katariinankatu 18. There is a space for working in many kinds of animation and video activities and technics. Animation workshops and several courses are accomplished in there. There is DV-camera equipment and and couple of Premiere pro editing workstations in the studio. In necessity also HD video and 16 mm film cameras are available. Although SFC mainly operates in the film culture, media education and citizen journalism, it also carry out video recordings of several events and format transferrings by order with a reasonable price. Quality of work instead is not cheap.
